Bromley Breaks Ground on Million Dollar Thrill Ride!

BROMLEY MT, VT – Coming off what can only be described as a banner ski season, Bromley Mountain has just broken ground on a million dollar addition to its summertime Adventure Park lineup, the Sun Mountain Flyer, New England's longest ZipRider® (visit ziprider.com for a preview).

Slated to open in early July, the Sun Mountain Flyer will be a ride unlike any other. So much so, in fact, that there's an excellent chance that even the most ardent thrill-ride seekers have never seen such a ride, let alone ridden one.

At a half-mile long, the Flyer will be one of only three ZipRiders® on the east coast, one of just seven in the lower forty-eight, and one of only ten in the world. It will soar as high as a five-story building and approach speeds of 50 MPH.

Ellen’s lifts start spinning.

Vermont Cross County Skiing

By KATHRYN FLAGG

ADDISON COUNTY — On a crisp, clear Wednesday afternoon, the barn at the Rikert Ski Touring Center was bustling with pint-size skiers, longtime regulars and gangly high school kids alike.

Tim Reilly, the Rikert ski school director, manned the front desk, helping one diminutive girl — Rosemary — into her ski boots. “Do you need help lacing those up? he asked. She did.

Nearby, volunteer coach Barney Hodges tended to his flock of Bill Koch League skiers. The league, with more than 50 children at some practices this year, provides ski instruction and races for children between 7 and 13 years old.

And as the Bill Koch kids piled out into the bracing air, Reilly warned bystanders of the next incoming wave of skiers.

Sparky and Peg Potter

By ANGELO LYNN

WAITSFIELD — Sparky and Peggy Potter have lived ‘the dream’ as well as any two ski bums could.

It’s been a journey that saw them struggle as part-time ski patroller and local craftsperson, launch an enviable business in the mid-to-late 1970s shooting photographs of extreme skiing and winter events, and finally ending up in Waitsfied, Vt. with an award-winning firm making custom-crafted signs for some of the nation’s most prestigious ski resorts.

And, all the while, staying within a few minutes of the slopes just waiting for the next dump of six inches or more.

In the ski bum world, that’s darn close to heaven.
