WELCOME TO VERMONT SKI AND RIDE MAGAZINE

Vermont Ski & Ride Magazine is here to chronicle the exploits of skiers and riders who shred the slopes here at home, and have been doing it for generations. We’re going to cover Vermont skiing beyond the surface stories found in the national magazines (the top 10 resorts, the best of the East, etc.) and get down to the nitty gritty. Just where is the best air, the steepest chute, the sweetest glade, the smoothest groomer. But don’t just tell us, show us with video clips you can post on our Web site or the best of your photos.

Vermont's home for the best ski and ride information on and off the slopes.

Kingdom Trails Building Down-Hill Bike Park on Burke Mountain

Burke Mountain received ACT 250 permitting to construct lift-service mountain bike trails. Work is set to begin very soon, with the construction of a down-hill mountain bike park on the lower slopes of Burke Mountain. Kingdom Trail Association (KTA), a not-for-profit recreation organization, will build, maintain and manage the trail system and Burke Mountain Operating Company will operate the chairlift. Built in the late fall of 2005, the Sherburne Express High Speed Quad will be fitted with bike racks, giving the many mountain bikers that flock to the Kingdom Trails each summer, a new way to reach the top of the trail.

SKI VERMONT ANNOUNCES 2009-10 SEASON SKIER VISITS AT 4.1 MILLION

STRATTON, Vt. (June 9, 2010) - The Vermont Ski Areas Association announced at its annual meeting that Vermont’s ski resorts recorded 4,125,082 skier visits for the 2009-10 season. This marked a 1.4% increase over the prior season’s tally and tracked with the 5-year average.

“With below-average snowfall, below-average days of operation and an economy still struggling to pull out of a major recession, the season’s numbers are a true testament to the ski industry’s resiliency and its importance to Vermont’s economy,” remarked Parker Riehle, President of the Vermont Ski Areas Association.

The 2009-10 season was most notably marked by a late start and an early finish, with few major snowstorms in between. Still, Vermont ski areas saw strong weekend business and solid holiday bookings that brought skier visits ahead of last year, while other Northeastern states saw an overall 2.8% decline as reported by the National Ski Areas Association.
